Marsh Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "North Florida Marsh" by Carol Schiff, 9x12" Landscape, SOLD

I recently spent a few days in Fernandina Beach and stumbled across one of their beautiful marshes.  I have always admired marshes and their beautiful colors which change with the seasons.

SOLD
I like texture in many of my paintings and I always enjoy playing with a palette knife.

I also like to push color.  Elio Camacho is a master of pushing color.....check out his work here.
I was in Fernandina Beach to attend his workshop and I hope I was able to use some of his technique in this painting.  The workshop was fascinating and I have already signed for a follow-up early next spring.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Floral with Melon Still Life, 14x18x.75" Oil

Today's art is a workshop painting.  I recently attended a 4-day workshp with one of my favorite artists, Elio Camacho.  Elio is as good as an instructor as he is as an artist.  I would be hard pressed to find another instructor with as much knowledge and one who gave me as much individual attention.  Maybe he thought I need the attention more than others....just kidding.  Everyone in the class got lots of instruction tailored to their individual needs.

This is my second Elio workshop and I have already signed up for another.  I need constant reinforcement to actually put his techniques in practice.

Elio is not an internet artists, but you can find his work on Pinterest.  He doesn't allow photos taken of him that expose his face.  You will see lots of images of him at the easel, always from behind.

He lives in the Bay area, but travels to Florida in the Spring and Fall of each year to do workshops in several locations here.  Workshop information is available on his website here.  If you decide to go, you will have a real treat ahead of you, as he is also a very interesting person with a wonderful sense of humor.  Enjoy!

Have a great day!

Sunflower still life, 14x18" Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting

I have retuned home from another exciting workshop with Elio Camacho.  I went to work right away, trying to imprint his wisdom on my brain.

I worked hard on this one, trying to retain the bold brushwork and saturated color that makes his technique special.  I think it is a good start for me, but I have lots of area for improvement.

Practice makes perfect.  I am pretty sure he would tell me to make the flower on the table look less like a flower and more like paint.

To be continued.......

Workshop Memories

I found this image, in my files, of a quick demo from Elio Camacho.  It is an example of his brushwork and wonderful color relations.  He did the demo in approximately 15 minutes, painting from memory.

Elio is a wonderful instructor, with so much information to share.  I was horrified when he wiped this off!

The painting below is another of his quickie demos.

Elio lives in the bay area, but he comes to Florida to teach each spring and fall.  I highly recommend his workshops.  If you are interested in attending a workshop, or a three hour demo, check out his schedule at his website. www.colorrelations.com.

This week, my sweet granddaughter, Courtney, graduates from University of Florida!!  Congratulations Courtney!!  We are so very proud of you!  Now, onward to medical school.

A Painting Workshop with Elio Camacho

A few weeks ago, my friends Carmen and Donna and I drove to Fernandina Beach, FL to attend a 4 day workshop with Elio Camacho.   Elio is one of my favorite painters and my very favorite instructor and I have been lucky enough to attend with workshops twice a year for the past three years.

I started each day with this beautiful sunrise over the ocean, while eating breakfast at the hotel.

This is one of Elio's 36x48" demos that he paints in just three hours!

Here Elio met a challenge to paint without darks.  He often states a painting should bring it's own light.  I think this one meets that requirement

Another of his larger than life paintings.

This was a 25 minute demo he did for us on foam core.  He pushed the color even more than usual and got wild and crazy.

His brushwork is very exciting...something I am hoping to bring to my work.

Elio spent a year painting blue studies, then moved on and studied yellows and reds.  He likes to set up still life, to challenge his students, all in a single color.  He believes red is the most difficult color to paint.  If you can do a red painting, you can really see color.  This is a 20 minute demo he did for us one day.

We hated to leave the workshop after 3.5 intense and fun days.  To console ourselves, we had a final lunch of fried shrimp at our favorite eatery.

A final photo of Carmen and Donna, de-stressing with  ice cream in front of Island Art Association.  We thank the members for hosting us once again.  Then we hop into our car for the drive home.

One last classic Elio demo that he painted in about 15 minutes, out of his head.  I almost cried when he scrapped it off the next morning.

Needless to say, we are excited to return for his next Florida workshop in the spring.  You can find his workshop schedule here.

Small Still Life, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Lemon Still Life, "A Classic Set-Up" by Carol Schiff, 8x10 Original

I found the workshop to be both helpful and exciting.  Elio's gave us some information that I had not heard before, especially about the direction of strokes and color.

I don't take a lot of workshops and always get very stressed in them, trying to follow my instructor's information.  This workshop was no different.  I ended up with paintings that looked unlike Elio's and unlike mine.  However, Elio is a very talented artist and instructor and I immediately signed up for a second workshop with him this spring.  Hopefully I will be a bit more relaxed next time.

Small Sunset Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Marsh Sunset" , 8x10x1.5" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

I love to paint sunsets, but more importantly, I practice, practice, practivce sunsets.
I just retutned home from another Eliuo Camacho workshop, and, one of the main points I have retained this time is just that.  He spoke of how he spends hours and days and weeks perfecting a certain type of stroke, or perhaps a shape, until it is second nature.

He said a painting, just like a dancer, should look effortless!

I am not there!  But, I now have a clearer goal in mind and a plan to get there.

If you have the opportunity to attend Elio's demo or workshop, I highly recommend him.  Not only an excellent artist, but also an excellent instructor......and he makes it all fun!  Cannot wait to return.

Thank you for viewing my art today.

Impressionist Floral Painting, Daily Painting, Roses and Pear, 14x18x1.5" Oil

In early November, I attended a workshop with Elio Camacho.  I have to say it was four hard working, but enjoyable days.  He is a wonderful instructor and has given me to courage to attempt new techniques.

He has helped me tremedously with seeing color.  I was not reading the reflection on the bottle as lavander until he pointed it out to me.  Of course, his use of color is what attracted me to his work in the first place.

I like the soft colors here along with the soft edges.

I have plans to return for another session with him in March.  I am working hard to  put his techniques into practice in my work and I am excited to see where this journey will take my art.
