Friends

I sometimes think back to when I was raising a family, working in an office everyday, just rushing from one project to the next, trying to get everything done that needed to be done.
.trying to fit everything into the day, but instead of doing everything that needed to be done, I am doing everything I WANT to get done.

A large part of my life today is about art, and a large part of my art is about my friends, "Pieces of Eight".  We are eight women of a certain age, who found each other through our art.  We paint together every week at Ralph's Art Supply.

Our group blog

We do exhibitions together, we travel together, we paint together, and we never fail to support each other in good times and bad.

After a few hours painting and catching up with each other's week, we have lunch together.

We put the names of all the local eatery's in a bag and each week we draw a name and that is where we have lunch.  Why?  Have you ever tried to get 8 women to agree on anything?  Trust me, everyone has an opinion!

This was our luncheon view yesterday.....just in case we forget why we live in Florida!

These women are definitely a blessing in my life, and I just wanted to share it with you today.

Fall Landscape, Daily Painting, "Fall Colors" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

We have just returned from several weeks in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.  Everyday I would run to the door as soon as the sun peeked over the mountain to see how the beautiful fall colors had intensified over night. I was not disappointed.

The sun was back lighting a red maple, giving it a beautiful glow.  I tried to duplicate the colors without falling into the "too garish" trap.



It was a lovely trip.  Lots to do with little time available.  I need to take a few deep breaths and all will turn out okay.

I have a framer with a bit of moulding left that I love but the size I can frame is 3.5 x 3.5 maximum. 

So I painted this tiny lady to get my hands on that last bit of frame:)

Wee Three was a still I painted from three miniature pumpkins set up in my kitchen under a lamp.

I chose a 6x10 inch size which was perfect for establishing an interesting composition.

Happy Halloween - 5x7 Oil on Masonite - Tina Calle, Hickory, NC artist

I love October. And on October 1st, we pull out all of the Halloween decorations. This little votive sits on my counter under the LED lights and gets lit up without a candle. I did this quick painting while helping a friend on her bigger painting. The people who have seen it love the feeling it evokes for October! Happy Halloween!

This is a painting from a picture that my cousin recently posted from his family vacation. I created this 8 inch x 8 inch oil on linen MDF board using his photo as inspiration. The camera didn't nearly capture the beauty of the original. The painting sold the very next day. I float framed it since the paint ran out to the edges so nicely. It's a gorgeous piece. :)

This lovely 8x8 inch piece was created quickly from an imagined setting in my studio. The colors were inspired by my favorite pottery cup. I loved the colors so much I decided to use them in a painting. The dancers were the right focal point to bring all of these unusual colors together. The painting sold as quickly as I painted it! :) The painting was done the last week of August 2013. I had it professionally framed for the family.

While visiting Pass Christian, I saw this crab hanging on a seawall outside the shrimping boat docks. I kept the abstract feel and stayed loose with color and form...
